Flannel Friday: Fifteen Animals by Sandra Boynton

Happy National Poetry Month! To celebrate, my Flannel Friday posts this month will be poetry, nursery rhymes, and the like.

This is my version of Fifteen Animals by Sandra Boynton. Her illustrations had such great lines that I enlarged them and then used them as my templates. I'm looking forward to using this set in storytime.

Anna has the roundup this week.

Have You Seen My New Blue Socks? by Eve Bunting

Duck has lost his new blue socks. Have you seen them?

What I thought: I really like this story. We have a problem to be solved. That's a great set-up. I like the rhyming...it's like a tribute to Dr. Seuss, but manageable.  The illustrations are nice--muted colors and good use of white space.

Since writing the above, I've used this book in storytime (duck theme) and I loved it! I think next year instead of doing a Dr. Seuss storytime, I'll do a rhyming storytime in honor of him and use Have You Seen My New Blue Socks?

What is it with ducks & socks? Pair with Duck Sock Hop for a duck-tastic, sock-tastic storytime. Pair with I Want My Hat Back for a lost & found storytime.

Mollie over at What Happens in Storytime... has turned this book into a flannel board. I think I might follow suit.

Storytime Themes: Animals, Ducks, Socks, Lost & Found, Rhyming

Flannel Friday: Hickory Dickory Dock

Happy National Poetry Month! To celebrate, my Flannel Friday posts this month will be poetry, nursery rhymes, and the like.

This is another inspired by Flannel Friday post. I saw this idea on Mollie's blog and thought it would be a fun addition to my moose storytime. I used a coloring sheet as a pattern for the clock. The mouse came from Clker and the moose from a Google image search.

Anne has the round up this week.

Happy National Poetry Month 2014!

I know it's a day late, but April is one of my favorite months as it celebrates one of my favorite things...poetry!

I'm not doing any special programming in my libraries this year. I will be sharing poetry when I visit classes at a local elementary school this month.

I was a 2013 CYBILS judge in the poetry category. I created an index of all my poetry reviews as a result. I have some new 2014 titles on order and hope to be reading and reviewing them soon.

For Flannel Fridays this month, I'll be sharing rhymes, poems, and the like that I have turned into felt sets for my flannel board. To see what I've already posted, check out the index of my Flannel Friday posts.

This year I decided to created a bulletin board poetry calendar (inspired by this idea)  in the kid's section. One poem for each day in April, all from books in our library collections. I'm hoping the end result will be the books featured checking out many times during the month.
